Local Nonprofit Kids Standard Publication, Inc. Wants to Give Local Kids a Platform for Their Writing

Nonprofit to produce monthly magazine that is for kids by kids, featuring fiction, nonfiction and poetry by students in the Clarkston and Lake Orion school districts

Clarkston, Michigan (October 2, 2015) – For student authors, finding a publication that will publish their work can be a daunting task. Fortunately, young writers in Oakland County are in luck. Kids Standard a recently launched free magazine produced by Clarkston-based nonprofit Kids Standard Publication, Inc. is hoping to fill that void and give local students a place to showcase their work.

The monthly magazine, which was launched in March 2015, features poetry, short stories, academic research and essays written entirely by local students. It’s a magazine for student by students, and each month, the free publication is distributed to students in the Clarkston and Lake Orion school districts. But Kids Standard is more than an outlet for student writing; founder Maggie Razdar hopes the opportunity to be published will promote literacy, a love of research and student creativity among local students.

With the increasing presence of digital technology in the lives of our children, I felt that kids were losing touch with activities like reading, writing, and research, Razdar said. My goal for creating Kids Standard was to inspire children to read, write, and share their work with peers.

In addition to the monthly magazine, Kids Standard is also developing a local young author mentoring program. Currently, Razdar tutors area high school students in writing and creative problem-solving, and has introduced a volunteer program for high-schoolers that allows them to mentor local elementary students in reading and writing. Kids Standard, Inc. is also currently conducting fundraising to grow a local scholarship fund for young authors.

About Kids Standard Inc.: Kids Standard magazine was originally launched in 2009 in Syracuse, N.Y., by Maggie Razdar to inspire and showcase students creativity and writing talents. After relocating to Michigan, Razdar relaunched the publication in March 2015. Today, Kids Standard magazine is distributed monthly to students in the Lake Orion and Clarkston school districts. The organization provides student mentoring and outreach in the Clarkston area. You can visit Kids Standard Publication, Inc. online at: http://www.kidsstandard.org/.
